TEDxMuskegon Salon

Throughout history, salons have promoted the exchange of ideas by gathering people together for enlightening conversation.  TEDxMuskegon invites you to join us for future TEDxMuskegon Salons to learn more about TED, watch a TED video and engage in conversation with community leaders, educators and professionals!

The 2012 TEDxMuskegon salon was held on the LST 393 for this year's TEDxMuskegon Salon, where ideas set sail! An inspiring TED video was shown, dynamic discussions took place, and people enjoyed snacks from Fatty Lumpkin's Sandwich Shack.

Plans for the next TEDxMuskegon Salon will be announced soon.

Featured TED talk: Deaf in the Military

Keith Nolan wants the opportunity to follow in the steps of his grandfather and great uncles by entering the U.S. Army in a noncombat role. He was denied because he is deaf.

After he finally convinced a commander to let him audit ROTC classes, he proved himself a top student and earned his uniform.  Although a standard military hearing test prevents him from enlisting, his continued fight has inspired many would-be soldiers with disabilities -- and a vigorous online campaign on his behalf.
